Abstract:
    Agruino is an intelligent irrigation system aimed to automate the process of agriculture in order to save water. The soil moisture content will be monitored to control water flow into fields.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    96% of the water in Pakistan is used for agriculture. Pakistan is facing severe water shortage and might lose all of its water reserves by 2025 if it doesn’t mend its way. Agruino assist in saving water as irrigation will be automated and the soil moisture level will be monitored in real time.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   From small sized farms to larger ones, every farmer faces the issue of water management. Our solution initially focuses on smaller farms. Out of 23.8 million hectares of cropped land about 80% is irrigated. This shows the available potential market for the implementation of our solution.
How will the solution works
    The project uses IOT concepts to provide irrigation solutions to the farmer. It will use multiple soil sensors to detect the soil moisture content. The system will determine the amount of water needed at that time at that specific part of the field for that crop type. Small gates will be installed which control the entry of water into the field. Our system will also get insights for weather predictions using internet that will enable the system to conserve water in the case of incoming rain.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    As per our research, we don’t have any real competitor in the local market in Pakistan. The farming techniques have not significantly changed for the past 50 years. The developed countries have worked on this though e.g. Cropx Inc. in Israel gives insights on mobile app instead of IOT automation.
