Abstract:
    Understanding spatial structures & processes is essential for problem solving in chemistry. This project aims to develop a pipeline to aid student understanding via 3D visualization at molecular level
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    In Pakistan it has been estimated that over 1,800,000 individuals are enrolled in colleges offering chemistry education. Conventional teaching methods (physical tool-kits & existing modeling software) employed currently cannot fully aid student comprehension.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Students often struggle to make the transition from memory-based performance to active use of scientific concepts in diverse situations. This project will be beneficial to chemistry students at every stage ( especially undergraduate level) in all types of institutions.
How will the solution works
    The solution is a client-server model. Each student will have an app installed (client) which will connect to the server via internet. The client will take an image of the compound they want visualized from their textbooks. This image will be sent to the server which will detect the compound from the image, generate its 3D model and then send the simplified model back to the client where students can easily interact with it on their devices. Name of a compound may also be entered as input.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Some solutions exist which make use of virtual models for learning but most of them require the user to enter the name of the compound or draw the 2D version of the compound in their editor first. Our solution is different because it allows the user to get the model by simply taking an image.
