Abstract:
    Rehabilitation of affected limbs of stroke paralysis patients by classifying thoughts of movement with EEG activity, accordingly applying FES along with animation of their limb movement in VR headset.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    9 out of 10 stroke survivors have some degree of paralysis immediately following a stroke. Currently, only about 10 percent of paralytic stroke victims recover almost completely, our product will ensure maximum and early recovery of patients after paralytic stroke using electrical stimulation and VR
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Our product will be helpful for paralytic stroke patients.Stroke is the 3rd most common cause of death and the 1st leading cause of disability in developed and developing countries.In Pakistan estimated annual cases of paralytic stroke are approximately 0.4 million from which 20% are under 45 years.
How will the solution works
    The solution will generate restorative movement in paralyzed limbs using: Functional Electrical Simulator (FES) would cause movement in the effected limbs with an intensity varying inversely proportional to the effort generated by the patient. Brain Computer Interface (BCI) would detect and extract the signal from patient’s brain, whenever he produces mental effort to move the effected limb, and trigger the FES appropriately. VR animator for more natural operation using visual feedback.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Currently there are only some proof of concepts in literature, that use BCI along with FES to help recovery in stroke patients, but they are very specific in design, respective to patient under study. Such design are nonexistent in Pakistan. Our solution cost effectively caters both the problems.
