Abstract:
    Bio lights carrying either living or genetically engineered bacteria that utilized bio luminescence to emit visible light can be used as alternative for reducing energy consumption
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    This idea aim at providing alternative for production and use of light. Reduce electricity consumption, light pollution, less CO2 emissions and conserving resources which are being extremely depleted for electricity production will be benefits for us, especially for poor countries.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   we can illuminate shop fronts, public spaces, decorative lighting, building exteriors street signs, far places with no cables and installations with the hope of lighting up whole streets with these microbial lamp.
How will the solution works
    The lights are made by filling small transparent cases with a gel that contains bio luminescent bacteria (non pathogenic and nontoxic) along with sugar and oxygen needed for survival. e.g. Aliivibrio fischeri emitting blue-green light. Another approach would be genetically engineered species of Escherichia coli (not normally glow in the dark) by integrating Lux operon for controlling the expression of the genes needed for bio luminescence.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Glowing microbial lights can prove as a effective market competitors for electricity generators, light (lamp, bulb) industry, decorators, etc. Non pathogenic and nontoxic microbes in transparent cases can take any shape and stick to surfaces and glow making future brighter indeed.
