Abstract:
Using organic materials such as corn to develop plastic which can be degraded by micro-organisms under the right conditions. In this way the environmental pollution caused by plastic can be reduced.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
The increasing environmental pollution due to non-degradable plastics can be reduced by replacing them with the bio-plastic. Organic sources can be renewed and the waste accumulation can be cut down. Using wastes to generate degradable plastics can not only reduce pollution but also costs.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
The entire population needs this solution as pollution is a problem for the whole humanity. Getting rid of the conventional plastics can help in reducing the environmental pollution. The industries can switch to the bio-plastics and hence gain an environmental friendly for product development.
How will the solution works
The bio-plastics can replace the conventional plastics in terms of all the materials made of plastics, such as bottles and plastic bags, which are the most problematic. Moreover, the bio-plastics can cost lesser as they are produced from the organic substances such as corn and starch. The renewable sources can help in ensuring that there are no harmful metal contents and that the plastic can be degraded rapidly.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Competitors include the industries which are currently working to provide the bio-degradable plastic bags in Pakistan. However, their solution is based on manufacturing plastics by using petroleum based compounds, which is costlier as compared to the suggested solution of using organic materials.
