Abstract:
    The project aims at utilising the technique of concentrated solar power for the purpose of obtaining fresh water via desalination thereby reducing the fossil fuel consumption and global warming.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Currently Pakistan is facing a water crisis according to whoch it will run out of fresh water by 2025. An average family of five people require 20 litres of fresh water daily for drinking and cooking purposes. Fresh water is scarce in most of the areas and not drinkable even rhougj available.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   The people living near the coasts primarily are deprived of potable water. Our project will benefit such establishments as they would have an adequate supply of sea water as well as ample amount of solar irradiance. A single setup can give fresh water to around 10 people.
How will the solution works
    The project involves a concentrating solar collector, heat exchangers, separator and tanks. A heat transfer fluid will run in the tubes of the collector and gain energy from the incident dolar radiation. This fluid will then run in a heat exchanger where it will transfer its enegy to the incoming sea water raising its temperature sufficiently to a saturated mixture state. This mixture will then go to a seperator where the fresh water vapor will separate, condense and collect in the tanks.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Being from a country, which, according to its geographical location, is perfectly suitable for renewable systems reliant on solar technology, development of a concentrating collector is a very suitable solution to harness energy in a quantity more than that of typical solar collectors and cells.
