Abstract:
    CVDs (Cardiovascular diseases) and Pneumonia are one of the major causes of deaths in Pakistan. So, we are developing a Digital Stethoscope for the Analysis of Heart and Lung Sounds.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Pakistan is the 3rd largest contributor of pediatric pneumonia. Similarly, 30 to 40% of all deaths in Pakistan are due to CVDs that claim more than 0.2 million lives every year. So, there is a dire need of a low cost solution for this problem, which will be available to everyone.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Since, the available equipment is costly, so it's not accessible to all. Our solution is low cost so it will be accessible to all. On a large scale, the doctors will benefit from it, and even, patients can use it at home after several visits to hospitals, under supervision.
How will the solution works
    PCG signals will be acquired using piezoelectric sensor, on which two stage filtering will be performed, i.e. Analog Filtering and then Digital Filtering (using DSPIC). The filtered signal will then be processed in MATLAB and the heart and lung sounds will be separated on the basis of frequencies via filtering. Furthermore, Heart rate and Breath count are calculated by implementing algorithms using Machine Learning techniques and finally, diseases will be detected from those using ML techniques
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    There are 2 major competitors, currently. One is ThinkLabs One and other is Litmann 3M. Our project is 'low cost' compared to these two and will also perform the 'classification' of the detected diseases on the basis of the respective recordings taken from patients, in addition to basic features.
