Abstract:
This study will make use of pyrolysis and upgrading technologies to process mixed waste plastics to produce a waste-derived bitumen (w-bitumen) with durable and reliable road engineering performance
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Pakistan produces around 5 million tonnes of waste plastics every year, while not significant amount of it is recycled. Our project will not only address this environmental issue, but will also provide an economical alternative to bitumen and lower the construction cost of transport infrastructure
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
The key beneficiaries will include CPEC project, Engineers NLC, Urban Development authorities and any other companies dealing with transport infrastructure and waste management.
How will the solution works
This study will make use of pyrolysis and upgrading technologies to process mixed waste plastics to produce a waste-derived bitumen (w-bitumen) with durable and reliable road engineering performance. W-bitumen will be used in asphalt to showcase the material’s engineering performance for the road construction
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
At this stage, this idea is not implemented in Pakistan, so local competition is not an issue. However, KWS, Wavin and Total inaugrated the first plastic road in Netherlands in September 2018. Our solution is unique in the local context, and it can help Pakistan be among the pioneers of this field
