Abstract:
Developing wireless air to ground communication technology, enabling WiFi access points to be mounted on drones.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Inexpensive high-speed internet service simply does not exist for many rural communities. According to a 2016 consensus, 60.78% of Pakistan's population lived in rural areas and only 15.51% of the population had access to the internet.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
One of the leading causes for Pakistan's low literacy rate is lack of educational supplies in rural schools. In Balochistan, for example, 56% of primary schools are not operative due to lack of supplies. Internet access could help cope with this through provision of ebooks.
How will the solution works
Wireless access points (WAPs) such as those present in our homes and offices connect devices with WiFi access to wired networks, which provide internet. Our solution would be to mount a transceiver on a drone, capable of communicating with a terrestrial base station and to act as a WAP. The base station will be connected with the wired network to provide internet access.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Our competitors are terrestrial wireless access point manufacturers. However, our solution will serve the users who are unreachable through wired links required by terrestrial WAPs due to difficult terrain or no sustained need for an access point etc.
