Abstract:
    Deployment of a LoRaWAN for managing trash collection as part of smart city. The gateway will be made using Pi and the nodes consist of Arduino and LoRa module for low power, long range communication.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Karachi produces 12000 tons of waste daily which will increase by 40% in 4 years. Improper waste management in our city results in spread of diseases and environmental problems. Starting with collection, the bins are not collected and emptied on time which leads to disposing off waste on the roads.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Private and government waste collection board need this to monitor the level of bins and to know where to send fleet to clear the trash. They can use an application anywhere to analyze the data. Citizen would also benefit by a clean environment which results in less diseases with reduced waste.
How will the solution works
    Continuous monitoring of level of smart bins through ultrasonic sensors and then the data will be communicated through LoRa protocol to the gateway that is self-designed using Pi and LoRa module (RN2483) and further the gateway will push data to the cloud server. As the level of any bin will increase by a certain amount, an alarm may be raised and waste management companies can send to fleet to clear the trash using the node address, we can trace the location of the bin.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Since this sector has not been automated in Karachi, we have no competitors yet. Potential competition can arise from the manual waste management but our solution is different since we are introducing an idea of a low power long range wireless communication network to monitor waste levels in bins.
