Abstract:
    Nano-based bioremediation of hexavalent chromium (toxic form) intro trivalent chromium (non-toxic form) produced by Leather tanneries as waste product that pollutes water bodies.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Leather tanneries are the most prominent source of chromium pollution in Pakistan. They discharge Cr(VI) upto 26,000mg/l of tannery effluent. In Pakistan, the immense discharge of untreated effluent is an arising problem for leather industries. It has resulted in severe environmental degradation.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   The various leather industries across the world. The benefactors would include Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PCSIR and Search Results Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency.
How will the solution works
    It will involve the following steps:1.Extraction of chromium reductase enzyme from Pseudomonas Aeruginosa or Bacillus Subtlis as they have a proven efficiency of 99% of reducing hexavalent chromium to trivalent chromium 2.Production of Single Enzyme Nano-particles. This will include a. chromium reductase covalent modification b. hydrolysis and cross linkage c. Enhanced production of Single Enzyme nano-particles (SENS). Placement in the column through which chomium waste water will be passed.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    The competitors include companies producing chromium degradation plants. My solution is:1. Cost-effective. No use of electricity as well as lower installation cost. 2. Efficiency will be up to 98%.3. SEN will protect the enzymes from degradation and can be used for months instead of hours.
