Abstract:
Our project focuses on the children with Autism and their therapies in Virtual Reality. It will help them experience the real world problem in virtual world without being harmed in any way possible.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
One out of 66 children is autistic and this number is increasing with time. There is no proper treatment for them in Pakistan. There are a few private Autism Resource Centers and they are not affordable for many. Our project will help parents conduct a few therapies at home without paying much.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
Autistic children and their caretakers are primary users. There are more than 350,000 autistic children in Pakistan.Unfortunately most of them remain undiagnosed due to the lack of awareness and expertise in diagnosis.Mostly parents cant really afford to pay for regular therapies. It will help them.
How will the solution works
Autistic child will use the VR gear to undergo the therapy session in the presence of a caretaker or a therapist. The caretaker will make the child wear the VR gear to start the session. He will select the therapy and its level according to the child's requirement. If child's done before the therapy ends, the caretaker will take off the VR gear and when the child is comfortable again he will continue the therapy.According to the comfort level of the child, the levels of the therapy will be changed.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
According to our research there is no VR application available for the Autistic children in Pakistan. There are a few other mobile applications and softwares available. Our application is interactive and let the child experience the real world scenario without getting harmed physically or emotionally.
