Abstract:
    The project proposes to deliver ALS, stroke and bed ridden patients the capability to communicate and rehabilitate to become independent again, using BCI and eye movement detection to control a bot.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    ALS and stroke are common neuromuscular diseases worldwide. More than 350,000 people suffered from stroke in 2008 in Pakistan, with 25-30% patients within the age 45. Currently, there is no cure for this. Hence, our project will facilitate in providing an efficient alternate solution to the problem.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Every year 15 million people worldwide suffer from stroke, out of which 5 million suffer from disability. This is a major cause of paralysis among many others including ALS and major injuries. Our project proposes an efficient and usable solution for all these people.
How will the solution works
    The system extracts and processes EEG signal using Non-Invasive BCI and detects eye movement through a pupil tracker. Functions are extracted from this data to enable the user to move the bot using Motor Imagery and cursor through eye movement. Through interfacing, various event handlers are called in different situations. The bot moves on its wheel base and uses a robotic arm to pick and drop objects. It also uses a camera to show live feed and audio devices for communication to the patient.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    There are alternatives available, but none of them are as complete, user friendly and multi-purpose. Few of the alternatives deal with invasive BCI applications, which is too expensive. Others are application based and have limitations. But, our solution can be utilized for broader applications.
