Abstract:
    A non-intrusive monitoring tool with a standalone application interface to measure, store and provide the appliance level breakdown of the energy consumed in a household promoting judicious energy use
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Annual Energy Outlook declared approximately 35% of all home energy consumption are electronics and lighting.New Perspectives/Energy Inform (2004) estimated cost savings of 9% for advice on day-to-day behavior via an implemented network. Pakistan Energy statistics state 22.5% electricity shortfall.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Users living anywhere in Pakistan are not provided with the appliance level breakdown of the use of electricity. Pakistan has 23 million registered consumers of electricity, ranged as 47% domestic, 30% Industry, 11% agriculture and remaining fall under other categories. All can benefit equally.
How will the solution works
    The solution uses TMR sensors and capacitive pickups for current and voltage sensing respectively. This would be done non-intrusively for wider integration,less installation hassle. Data acquired would be delivered to processor where the appliance would be detected after event detection (appliance turn on). Features would be extracted i.e real, reactive power, transients based on which the device is classified. This would be displayed on phone and sent to a server allowing judicious energy use.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Plug energy monitors perform the task of measuring power in real-time but have to be employed at each switch. Cumbersome to employ. Smart Meters require a smart grid to work properly. The solution is expensive and requires investment. Does not directly provide information to the user.
