What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    As robots become more and more integrated with human lives the need for safer physical human robot interaction becomes more dire. The field of soft robotics has recently gained momentum in light of this very need. Our pneumatically actuated hybrid muscle carries forward this mission.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Chronic rehab patients, research community and any other application containing safe human-robot interaction demanding versatility and programability within the range of ADL.The potential numbers go upto a million.
How will the solution works
    It consists of a pneumatically actuated soft element as well as rigid shells. The project is a new approach to graspers. Soft pneumatic actuators generally offer good power to weight ratio but does not offer the same degree of control as compared to traditional rigid robotics. We aim to stem this gap to a certain degree by using inter-link locking for better shape conformity and more dynamic control. A promising solution to repeatability and programmability in soft robotics.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    This project is an extension of an ongoing reseach.The competitors are rigid robotics currently widely being used in the rehab sector.Soft robotics actuation has high force-weight ratio & the proposed design has not yet been introduced in the industry which gives us an edge.
