Abstract:
    Functionalized immobilized and size optimized Quantum dot easy-on sprays/ applicator liquids to purify air and water from organismic and inorganic pollutants by Resonance Energy Transfer.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Air pollution and water scarcity.This spray could be used in water purification plants (40% of annual deaths because of polluted water) as well as on air vents (to capture PANs etc) being economically powered by sunlight. The quantum dots are immobilized, so there will be little chances of bleaching
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   It can be used in homes, villages and famine-stricken areas. The benefactors can be diverse, from water purification plants (for example Al Khidmat foundation) to companies working on air conditioning. Agriculture driven industries can also provide their farmers with these spray cans or suspensions.
How will the solution works
    These receptor functionalized quantum dots will induce apoptosis (cell membrane degradation) in bacterial cells and capture inorganic ions with the help of resonance energy transfer by using sunlight and photocatalysis respectively. Immobilization (grid form) and coating of a mesoporous polymer, will prevent bleaching. Increased surface area will help in a highly efficient capture of target pollutants and sunlight. Being cost-effective, all it will take is to pass air or water through the coat.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    While there is an ever-increasing number of water purification plants employing entrapped bacteria, chemicals, machinery and what not (same for air purification, though very little is done on that part). This is cost-effective, requires sunlight and just a few coats (composition in nano-micro scale)
