Abstract:
    Portable exo-skeleton hand which can be used not only for rehabilitation but also for performing daily activities.Main focus is on transmission of force from actuator to tip of finger for ADL.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Impairment of motor function of hand is a common problem that surfaces after developing neurological disorders such as stroke or incurring injury such as post-traumatic arthritis.The exo-hand will enable the person to mimic the motion of normal hand instead of using EMGs which require training.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   People having a paralyzed hand will be able to grasp objects with the help of exo-hand. Stroke is very common nowadays. It also affects the motion of hand. So anybody suffering from semi-paralysis will be able to take benefit from it.
How will the solution works
    A cyber glove will be employed on the normal working hand of a person. This cyber glove will enable the paralyzed hand to mimic the motion of normal hand. Mode-switching will be employed. Paralyzed hand will only mimic the normal hand when the mode is switched on. When it is OFF, position of paralyzed hand will remain constant at current position in time and the normal hand will be free to move e.g. to open the bottle, you need two hands, holding the bottle and opening the cap.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    All other exo-hands. We are working on better force transmission so that actuator specifications requirements are low. Moreover, we will not use EMGs which require training.
