Abstract:
Epilepsy is a neurological brain disorder. Idea is to develop wearable band that monitors EMG signals of patients. Aim is to early detect seizures, and to create alert and notify system.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Epilepsy’s seizure monitoring is mainly done inside Epilepsy Monitoring Unit which is tiresome as well as demands time and cost. There exists no mechanism that tracks patient’s location and alert the people around them. Predicting seizure based on medical history also isn’t common.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
Approx 50 million people in world have epilepsy.80% of them live in poor countries. About ¾ of people from such countries don’t get treatment. Pakistan has 5% of world epilepsy population. Prevalence in Pakistan is 9.9 per 1000. It is common in people less than 30 years and living in rural areas.
How will the solution works
Our solution uses a wearable device connected with an IoT platform for access and classification of data. Wearable device uses myoware sensor, GPS module, and micro controller to continuously monitor muscular activity. Whenever our algorithm detects GTC seizure, the patient’s data will be send to cloud from where onwards SMS will be sent to nominated individuals, using third party APIs. The data will be accessible by users and doctors as graphical representation of signal for better analysis.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Embrace watch developed by Empatica Inc., is too expensive. Secondly Brain Sentinel develop a device which is too bulky to wear. Our solution is unique as it allows early detects, predicts, tracks patient’s location, notify about seizure onset and allows patients – doctor interaction over a web app.
