Abstract:
A wearable and web platform for elders to detect any unforeseen events and monitor their vitals and provide helpful insights to healthcare professionals and their caretakers.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
In 2050 2 Billion people in the world will be over the age of 60. Right now 8% of the world’s population is over the age of 65. This will increase the burden on healthcare providers and caretakers. Furthermore, diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s require constant care from the caretaker.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
The elderly, caretakers and doctors would benefit from it because the elderly would feel safe knowing that their vitals are being monitored and they're constantly connected to the caretaker which would also mean a reduced burden for them and a better diagnosis on doctor's end.
How will the solution works
The smartwatch will acquire data from the elderly person. It would utilise all the sensors present on the smartwatch worn: Accelerometer and Gyro-meter for noting tremor data, detecting falls and measuring activity levels, Heart-rate sensor to monitor the heart-rate and upload them to the cloud. The doctor will be able to view the data acquired and co-relate the extracted features with the patient's health.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Currently there is no other mobile app that can monitor the health conditions and activity levels of the old and provide necessary insights and prompts to the caregivers using a Smartwatch.
