Abstract:
    A smart device that enables paralyzed/ stroke patients’ help perform self-physiotherapy by artificially generating body movements such as grasping and reaching out things.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Physiotherapy sessions conducted at the hospitals are quite costly, whereby the paralyzed patient has to wait for his turn. Self-therapy devices are not readily available in the market and hence our solution will enable the patients to perform physiotherapy sessions in the comfort of their homes.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Every year, around five million stroke patients are left permanently disabled due to lack of physiotherapy. Neuro-empathy device will help all such paralyzed patients in performing daily chores at the comfort of their homes.
How will the solution works
    Surface electrodes are placed on specifically determined points of healthy arm of stroke patient where the acquired muscle activity would result in maximum signal amplitude. The acquired signals are then processed using noise removal, amplification and filtering techniques and fed to the Functional Electrical Simulator (FES). FES throughput is delivered to paralyzed arm thus resulting in desired movement.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Competitors include companies providing robotic arms. The existing solutions are costly and can only provide little movement of fingers. With smart and cost-effective Neuro-empathy device, the paralyzed patient will be able to perform voluntary activities like grasping and reaching out things.
