Abstract:
    SPEx People worldwide suffer from muscle disorders like Parkinson’s, A.L.S et cetera. They have problems in limb movement. To make arm movement possible for them, we are designing an exoskeleton.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    People suffering from neurodegenerative muscle diseases like Parkinsons', A.L.S. e.t.c. can benefit from our exoskeleton. Parkinsons; alone affects 10 million people worldwide.There is no device that directly uses brain signals to move the limbs. All current solutions use buttons or other methods.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   There are millions of patients suffering from muscle diseases and cancer worldwide. Parkinsons' alone affects 10 milllion people worldwide. The boxer, Muhammad Ali had Parkinson's. He fought Parkinson’s until his death. Lives of people like him can greatly change with such a device.
How will the solution works
    EMG signals of the patient will first be retrieved.They have different amplitudes for different weights that a person is trying to lift.These signals will then be used to drive an external device that moves the arm.Different EMG signal amplitudes will cause the device to move the arm with different speeds.If the EMG signal amplitude is more for a higher weight, the device will move faster.The device will move slower if the patient is trying to lift a smaller weight.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Students at the university of Pennsylvania developed an exoskeleton that runs with a button. We will use brain signals directly. Many other companies are making prostheses for people with no limbs. Our solution is for people with limbs, but having muscle disorders.
