Abstract:
    Lublin is an Automatic Insulin Injection System that substitutes the less effective manually administered injections needed for type-1 diabetes patients whose pancreas fails to produce insulin.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    In type-1 diabetes, the pancreas fails to produce insulin needed for regulating blood glucose (BG) level. So, Automatic Insulin Injection System (AIIS) mimics Pancreas through precise insulin delivery but this system costs an average 4K USD/year that makes it unaffordable for our community.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   AIIS is a life saver for community living with type-1 diabetes. In Pakistan alone, more than 3.8 million people are insulin dependent. As AIIS is too expensive and not easily accessible in Pakistan, so they have to rely on manually administered injections which is inaccurate and uncomfortable.
How will the solution works
    We are designing a highly precise and easily wearable insulin delivery pump with hand-held controller that can be interfaced with an off- the-shelf continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor. Firstly, CGM communicates BG readings to the controller. Secondly, the user directs units of insulin on controller to transfer it inside the body to normalize glucose readings. Number of units is transferred to micro-controller (μC) via Bluetooth and then μC drives insulin delivery system to deliver it.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Medtronic, only AIIS in Pakistan, has a large size and uncomfortable, unfriendly design. Omnipod, available in EU/US only,is small and user-friendly, but has to be disposed of every 3 days. Both have an unaffordable cost of 4kUSD/year. Lublin will be cheap, small, user friendly and have 4 years life
