Abstract:
    UPFC is a device that increases the efficiency, stability and reliability of a power system by controlling the active and the reactive power flow, by real-time control of transmission line parameters.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    UPFC is the most versatile device which fulfills the unmet need of complete control over all transmission line parameters and offers dynamic power factor correction by injecting accurate reactive power locally and providing voltage stability. It will attract both local and international consumers.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   UPFC is gainful to both Electric Power Distribution companies and Industries. It allows a two-fold increase in the power transfer capability and minimizes line losses. It improves power factor dynamically. Thus, eliminating the need of new transmission lines and industries can save heavy penalties.
How will the solution works
    Unified Power Flow Controller allows real-time control of transmission line parameters by injecting voltage in the transmission lines with varying phase angle for voltage regulation and dynamic control of reactive power flow. Cascaded Multilevel Inverters have been used to obtain fast acting reactive power compensation and minimize total harmonic distortion and flicker. Thus, this solution increases the efficiency by eliminating the need of transformers.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Our competitors are the manufacturers of conventional UPFC, which employ the use of bulky transformers, thus decreasing efficiency by 50%. Adopting new transformer-less multilevel inverter design approach would provide a cost-effective and compact solution along with two-fold increased efficiency.
