Abstract:
    A bioreactor having liquid MSM and cultivating Aspergillus tubingensis will be used to degrade the polyester polyurethane,PU(Plastic), in less than 2 months.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Out of all the plastic ever made–an estimated 8.3 billion metric tons–79% of is not recycled nor incinerated and it still exists as waste in some form, whether that’s in a landfill or in the shellfish or sea salt that you eat. On its own, it typically takes hundreds of years or more to degrade.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Plastics are a major treatment and disposal problem in solid waste management as plastics are inert and non-biodegradable. The impact of plastics on the environment is now a global concern. Waste management authorities need the solution and billion of people will be benefited.
How will the solution works
    The bioreactor will provide the necessary nutrients for the fungus to grow and suitable condition for degradation of plastic. In first step fungus will be allowed to grow and divide. In next step PU will be added and fungus will allowed to penetrate its mycellium into it thus colonizing PU in order to start decaying. Then it is allowed to completely degrade PU.

    Our competitors include all the waste management and treatment companies which are specifically dealing with plastic. And our solution is different from them in a way that we are making plastic degradation easy, simple and approachable for everyone.
